Zenith Music Hall Strasbourg
Zenith is a Music Hall capable of accommodating 10,000 spectators.
The central core of the theatre-building consists of a reinforced concrete ellipsoidal building body. Made of metalwork structure, the beams of the cover lie on this solid perimeter in an interlocked fashion.
A structure consisting of 22 structural steel elements which support a sort of cantilevered portico develop around the cylindrical-shaped body. Partly anchored to the concrete walls and partly resting on the ground, this canopy was designed to form the skeleton for supporting the outer coating material: an orange textile membrane.
Due to its resistance and – above all – translucency characteristics fibreglass coated with silicone was the textile picked for this project. As a matter of fact, the behaviour of the textile exposed to light was a fundamental requirement for designers: as a matter of fact, at night the Zenith lights up from the inside and turns into a signal recognisable from far away.
