Locarno Film Festival
Canobbio Textile carried out the entire project. Based on the architectural design by the firm Michele Arnaboldi Architetti we built and installed:
the massive metalwork, consisting of a 90 m-long calendered galvanised iron ring measuring 50cm in diameter supported by V-shaped side poles.
The funnel-shaped 950 gr/m2 cover membrane made of high strength polyester pvc
The slidable side walls with 4 m stiffening.
All tensioning and fastening systems.
“In the early weeks of August, the town of Locarno holds the film festival in its main square. During this period the town was filled with small and large pavilions scattered around the square without an overall design. In order to fix this condition of apparent disorder, it was thought of building temporary architectural structures designed to house the various events in order to be able to create a precise relationship with the city. Anchored to the existing natural elements, the new pavilions appeared as islands with an elliptical shape covered by white curtains stretched outwards with metallic structures; this concept intends to revive the memory of the place: as a matter of fact, Lake Maggiore once stretched well beyond its current shore, occupying the areas where the islands are currently anchored creating a sort of “archipelago”.
