“Brickell City Centre is a major new three-block luxury shopping area in downtown Miami. “Climate RibbonTM” is an architectural cover that covers the pedestrian urban landscape through distinct blocks, linking the area into a single architectural statement. It provides shelter for shops and movement below. Consisting of a continuous glass surface (11,000 m2) and sun-screening blades made of membrane designed to provide an effective microclimate within the centre, reducing the discomfort associated with Miami’s hot and humid weather exclusively by using passive energy strategies, Climate RibbonTM was designed by the renowned firm Hugh Dutton & Associates. This unique urban element of the project is emblematic in terms of environmental and aesthetic qualities. Besides shading the facades of stores and terraces which are directly exposed to strong sunlight, it creates an air circulation to improve comfort by exploiting the summer trade winds using the special panels that attract gentle breezes through public spaces”.
