Abuja velodrome, Nigeria
The velodrome is part of a large complex near the “Main Bowl”, a large Olympic stadium in Nigeria’s new capital ABUJA. This is a multipurpose track cycling stadium. It can host major sporting events, exhibitions and international congregations with a capacity of up to 6,000 spectators.
The type of cover is a massive tensile structure measuring 150 m x 110 m installed at a height of 30 m from the ground supported by a several of 50 m antennas, for a total surface of 12,300 m2.
“The primary covering structure consists of a network of pre-tensioned cables with a double 3D symmetrical shape.
The cover meshes are made of textile panels that form a closed-dome 3D surface and a cable mesh”.
We – as Canobbio Texitle – were assigned the task of fully renovating the tensile structure consisting of 36 panels made of highly resistant PTFE, trapezoidal shaped assembled with special heating bar machines and bent with a system specially designed and tested to prevent micro breaks in the fibreglass during the sensitive and long transportation phase.
